About this event
Event focuses on quantum computing research and applications.
Who: Dr. Qian Xu (In-Person)When: November 5th, 4:00–5:00 pmWhere: Lauritsen 269, CaltechDiscussion: Architecting Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computers and Exploring Their ApplicationsDescription: Building reliable, large-scale quantum computers remains one of the biggest challenges in quantum computing. In this informal discussion, Dr. Xu will share his research on designing fault-tolerant quantum computing architectures, reducing the overhead of quantum error correction, and exploring potential applications of quantum computers.Bio: Dr. Qian Xu is a Senior Research Scientist at Oratomic, a quantum computing company developing fault-tolerant quantum computers using neutral atoms and efficient quantum error correction. Previously, he was a Sherman Fairchild Postdoctoral Fellow at Caltech. He received his Ph.D. in Quantum Science and Engineering from the University of Chicago in 2024. His research focuses on quantum error correction, fault-tolerant architectures, and practical applications of quantum computing.Everyone is welcome: minimal technical background is required. Come learn and ask questions. And yes, snacks will be provided.
